Post Check Engine code 41

I have a 1995 Grand Cherokee larado and it is showing dtc 41. I changed out the battery on Saturday and the connections are tight but the code came back tonight. I disconnected the positive terminal from the post and the car still ran. I was told that means the alternator is OK. Is that true? What else could be causing the code to come on. Should I inspect the alternator wiring? Please help.
