check engine

Default check engine

Hey guys I have a 93 v8 gc and my check engine light will randomly come on while I am driving . But when I shut it off nd start back up its gone nd will stay off and then randomly come back on again . Any ideas what it can be?

It's impossible to say without knowing the code. Go to Autozone, and they'll do it for free. ODB-II started in 1995, so I'm not sure if your car's computer will store the code even when it's off. But it's worth a shot. If nothing else, have them read it when it's active.

I got a 1994 gc 5.2 Yes it will store the code in history. No, advance doesnt have the obd1 scanner for it. Take it to a shop to have the code pulled. The diag plug is under the hood on the firewall also.

have you tried key on off method for codes but o2 sensor most common here

No i havnt tried that yet because i didnt know how to . I will do that when i go outside . I read the code list and i think its my thermostat bc it running around 170 or so . Im not sure the temp these engines are supposed to run at though.

Mine runs a tad under 210. Thats normal for these engines, yes 02 sensor is a problem, the light usually wont come on till it reaches opperating tempature if its a 02 sensor.

The key on method does work, but I dont think it will show history codes.

Well I did the key method and it came up with the thermostat code so I'm gonna change it to the 195 stat which is supposed to be factory temp
