Default Chance to get a 94 ZJ for next to nothin

Alright, a buddy of mine has a chance to pick a 94 ZJ for around $100. The PO is tired of dumping money into it. Problem is, it wont start. Not sure what all he's done to it. He (po) suspects a fuel pump, but I dont think he really looked into it. What are some common issues that I could lead my friend to look in to? That I know of, it turns but wont fire up

Crank sensor, cam sensor, fuel pump, ASD relay are all things that will keep it from starting.

Worst you can do is have to part it out and prob make more money. I'd say why not if you have the time.

Ok didnt have a whole lot of time to look at it. I unplugged the CPS and plugged it back in and tried to start and no go, this worked on my XJ. (I assume it was the CPS Passenger side of engine bay) On the ZJ's should you be able to hear the fuel pump if working correctly? I know on my XJ I can. I couldnt hear it on this rig. What is this ASD relay? And where is it located?
If I go to the fuel rail, pull of the cap and push down on the stem should you get fuel?

Yes you should be able to hear the fuel pump. Asd relay is in the fuse box under the hood, that stem is called a shrader valve and yes you should get a good squirt out of it not just a drizzle. If you aren't getting any fuel or only a little out of it then its a fuel problem. Easiest way to check for a fuel problem is to take off the filter and spray a bit of starting fluid in. If she sputters to life then dies its a fuel problem.

buy it and check the fuses and relays for the security system!!
mine shorted out all the time, it reduces the load to the starter so it attempts to start but can't.

That's probably because they sense that they are going to sell it for a small amount of money when the money they get for the Jeep will be less than it costs to fix it if they did it themselves. This is a case where you would have to play a mental game. They want to sell it because they don't want to get ripped off again by a mechanic. When speaking with them about buying the vehicle, you too have to act like you can't make the easy fix yourself and have to dump way more money into it than you would like. Once you get it home, fix it for nothing and drive your a$$ off.
