The key can be rotated from off to start positions, but can't be rotated back to the remove position. Steering wheel turns freely, manipulated shift lever thru positions, key can't be removed. The ignition lock was replaced two years ago. I'm thinking something has detached, where's the best place to start?

You have to change out the tumbler. I had this happen to me once in a Chevy. I haven't done it to a Jeep but there should be a write up and.or video explaining how.

That's a real bummer, as the tumbler in there now was replaced 2 years ago.

There is a cable link that goes to the shifter. It's probably detached. A good locksmith should be able to fix it.

Thanks Dave, that's what it was, problem solved, glad it wasn't the tumbler, that could have been expensive.

I got that info from the FSM I downloaded from pacificcoastmanuals.com for $7.99. It has a wealth of info on my WJ. Best manual ever.
