Default Can I put a 35 rear axle on a Jeep that had a 44?

I found out that my 2004 grand cherokee has a bent rear axle and I was able to get a 35 axle for free and I was wondering if it would be ok to put the 35 on the 04 Jeep and if there would be any complications from doing anything like that.

What model and year did the 35 come out of? I am assuming that it came out of a ZJ, and if that's true, i don't think it will bolt up. Suspension is different between them...

+1. if you don't verify your new axle's ring and pinion are the same as your front, you will break things quickly. chances are good they are a match, but do not rely on a guess.

you should really swap in an 8.25 or even a Ford 8.8

Did you read the thread? It's a WJ...

So going from a bolt in axle to leaf sprung axles that are several inches too short. A WJ WMS is 63.5", Ford 8.8 is ~59.75".
