Default A/C water leak on floor

I have a 94 Grand Cherokee limited and I have read a bit on this forum about the crazy way they want to drain the water from the air conditioning, Do you guys think just putting a nipple on the bottom and hose it to a hole in the floor would be a bad idea? I have already put a hole in the face of it and checked for blockage, its the way it mates to the firewall that is most likely the cause of the wettness. I don't really want to pull the dash apart and do it the correct way, I fear all of those twenty year old wire connections.

I cut a hole in wheel well to get to drain and attached a piece of hose to drain so it wouldn't run back in the firewall

The four nuts in the engine compartment that secure the HVAC box to the firewall may be loosened to permit the box to be pulled away from the firewall.

Then RTV sealant may be squirted into the gap around the HVAC box drain nipple, where the original foam gasket has stopped working. The nuts are tightened again to squeeze the seal tight.

Yank the carpeting and drape it over sawhorses in the sun and air to dry before replacing. It will NEVER dry in-place. Also space the foam-backed Mass Loaded Vinyl on the firewall near the passenger feet to permit that to dry. A couple of oil bottles works well for that spacing.
