Hey ol"blue - I too am wishing to avoid a $1,200 bill for a core replacement - if you can pm a guide it would be great!!
i don't think ol blue is around anymore. I did the work, taking the dash apart was really easy. Not even that many harnesses to disconnect. I followed the "my ACTUAL heater core replacement" thread found upon searching Google. Even without pics it's a great writ up.
do not take the airbags out, just disconnect them and the battery and pivot the dash from the driver's side.
Can someone forward me the instructions you've used. I found something but no pictures. Also, anyone replace th Vacuum line that goes from the T joint thru the fire wall? Not sure what diameter I need. I can be emailed at frat24@hotmail.com.
mine is not a grand cherokee. i believe this entire post started with Cherokee Sport. that's why i was asking for assistance. I have a '97 Cherokee Sport, automatic, 4L. about to replace evap/heater cores. need to resolve vac leak/issue as stuck on defrost. I can go from hot to cool so i believe the blend door functions.
Well that's a simple vacuum problem. Why are you going to rip out the dash? You obviously have a broken vacuum supply line to the mode switch in the control panel. The default setting is defrost when vacuum supply is lost. It won't close the door to outside air on engine shutdown either. I wouldn't tear out the cores unless there's coolant on the floor or the A/C won't keep a charge and a leak check dye doesn't show anywhere.
The blend door is controlled by an electric stepper motor, not vacuum.
The ac on my 94 cherokee country went out and it needed a new ac kit with high side Schrader valve. All parts were ordered and most of the system was taken out until one of the hoses attached to the evaporator core snapped off while trying to remove it leaving totally unusable.
So needless to say we need to replace the evaporator core but don't know how to go about it. We know the dash has to be removed and that's the part we don't know where to start. There are no air bags and I provided a picture of the front dash.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. I'm melting in this florida heat!!!
I'm getting a new car in November but this jeep runs great and I like to take my dogs in it and continue using it to zip around town.
thanks. Not sure why it did that, I was in the right forum wrote it out then tried to post when it told me I wasn't logged on. After I logged on it redirected me elsewhere without me realizing. thanks for pointing it out
2006 4.7 liter jeep grand cherokee evapotato replacement
I have a bad back otherwise would do myself. I'm in ft lauderdale area in soflo. Can anyone please list out all the parts which should be purchased to properly replace a/c Evaporator on a 2006 4.7 V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?
Also, would you recommend purchasing parts in Ebay?
Thank you all in advance.

Welcome to the forum.
The latest treatment for back problems is twisted under-dash contortions, so you are in-luck.
The easy fix is to just open the windows and drink plenty of water...
A vacuum pump is required. A manifold set is required.
Yes, eBay is a good source, so is Rock Auto.
The R134a refrigerant can cause serious bodily injury. Always follow all appropriate safety and handling procedures. Always wear eye and skin protection.
Been reading through the whole thread. And what I cannot determine is if the 99-03 ZJs are meant to have a temperature probe installed on the evaporator coil. Most vehicles have this. My mechanic insists it should have one. But I'm not finding ANY information in the manuals / forums / videos ANYWHERE on the internet.
I pulled my HEVAC apart and swapped out the blend doors, heater core, and evaporator coil last year. When I did, I did not take note of any electronic sensors attached to the old evaporator unit, and nothing was mentioned in any tutorials about swapping over the old probe to the new coil. Now my compressor does not even kick on. (yes full of refrigerant). I'm trying to determine if I need to pull the dash AGAIN and take apart the HEVAC AGAIN and replace another $40 part that I forgot the first time around.
I thought with the automatically controlled HEVAC, the solenoid under the unit next to the blower motor took the place of a temperature probe. But maybe I am confused?
I also am finding many different potential names for this part - temperature probe / sending unit / switch, Thermistor, etc. Which is making the online search ever more obnoxious.
The closest I have come to what I THINK is the correct part is MOPAR #5073364AA, but I can't find a single vendor online with an ACTUAL PHOTO of the part alongside the serial number to confirm it's what I am looking for.
Advice? Am I barking up the entirely wrong internet tree? Should I be looking at the high - low pressure sensors to get my compressor to spin?
Side question: I keep reading about vacuum hoses connected to the evap, and elsewhere on the HEVAC. But I can't find any more details about what they are, where they attach, what they do. etc. I don't recall anything more than the electrical harness on there. Am I missing something? Could a missing vacuum hose connection being the issue?
Thanks in advance.

Reason: Additional info.
2008 Laredo purchased a year ago and AC only blows hot air. Read posts, saw videos. Mechanic says an evaporator change required, but is intense in changing. Given blend doors break over time, blower can stop, is it worthwhile looking for a complete A/C housing with everything rekitted and replacing rather than spending the time messing about changing parts?
I have a 2000 Cherokee with leaks on the passenger side floor. I can't seem to clear the drain that goes from the firewall to the engine compartment. there anything else to do could you send me some pages on removing the dash? gilbobagginsga@gmail.com
