Brakes binding on front of 2000 WJ
Seem to be having a repeat problem with a sticking caliper on the front of my 2000 WJ 4.0 - every now and then I can feel the vehicle seems to need a bit more gas to accelerate and going downhill it does not gain any speed, rather it slows a little.
I understand there are 2 types of caliper fitted to the WJ - how do I identify which type I have and can I fit the alternate calipers without modification - obviously I would swap out the pair. Would I also have to change the rears to the same brand ?
Thanks.

There was a problem, and recall with Grand Cherokees built before 5-10-'02, and their "Teves" brand brake calipers. Maybe the recall wasn't done on your vehicle?
Read this, it will explain it, and it has part #s. http://www.wjjeeps.com/brakes.htm
Edit: No, the rears don't have to be switched.

That can cause the calipers to stick, drag, or lock-up, because the collapsed hose prevents the fluid from letting the pressure bleed off in the caliper.
I don't think that's the issue here though, as it comes and goes.
Many early WJ's were plagued with a problem with the Teves calipers. That's why there was a recall.
