Default Brake lights not working

99 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Well, my connections are good, I removed the trailer tow light plug (it is a U-haul 3 to 2 taillight converter) and still no brake lights with light switch in parking or on.
I do have brake lights only in off or auto. Bulbs are new and no blown fuses. Where do I go from here?
Thought I'd start a new thread. Don't want to hijack the others.
TIA

Can't say it enough. Check your tail light assemblys for melted plastic.

Oh never mind, I didn't see you had a fancy WJ with auto lights n such... I don't know, that's what sucks about new cats, everything has a god damn circuit board controlling it. It's hard to diagnose and repair new cars these days....

That's the connections I was talking about. No melted plastic. Looked clean. The converter has a red light that doesn't light up in any of the switch positions so I cut it out of the circuit hoping that would clear it up. No such luck. There is something different in the wiring for those 2 positions. There the problem lies. There only shows 1 fuse for the brake lights. It's good. The 3rd brake light always works.?

Correction. I found the connection you were talking about. In the tail light assembly where the bulb socket connects to the tail light assy. Yes, they were melted into the plastic and after pulling them up just a hair or 2, they work. Thanks, Dave1123 and Youtube.

PS correction: My brake lights stayed on last night for a few minutes before I noticed. I pulled the fuse and reinserted it today and they worked. I changed the shocks and took it for a test spin. When I turned off the car they stayed on.Seems like it's only in park when they stick. Looks like I'm in for a switch now. Probly why the connections melted to begin with. Hope thats the end of the line for that problem. Don't see a relay for it.

PSS correction: The new light switch fixed the problem. Brake lights work as they are supposed to. I had to position the push button to insert in the mounting bracket as it was off 180* out of the box. It could have worked upside down but there would have been undue tension on the wiring. Also replaced the shocks. Getting close. New antifreeze, tires and oil pressure switch.

Like I said, there is probably some kind of "light control module" (not a real name I just made that up) bit it's probably something like that. It might be a part of the switch assembly, I don't know. But my sister has an 02 WJ with remote start, and when you use it there is an audible clicking sound inside the dash somewhere, the lights flash on and off when this happens. I'll take a closer look to figure out where the sound comes from. But even if there is some sort of "light module" it may not be related to the brake lights. But then again the brake lights work in the off position like you said.
