Beefing up my 2001 grand cherokee
Hi everyone, thanks for your help last time,,
Well I would like to get another 50 bhp out of my grand Cherokee which is the standard 2001 grand Cherokee not the high out put engine and wondered how to do this? Re programme the engine? Or change air filters etc, I don't have a clue,
Also it has the standard springs and shocks at the moment and I would like to change this, I don't go off road much so just safer handling and braking etc,
Could anyone give me some suggestions please?
I can buy most stuff over here in the uk and if not will get it shipped over, many thanks to everyone, John

50 MORE? Well, there's nitrous! You're not going to get 50 more hp out of either the 4.0 OR the 4.7 and have it stay together for long.

The biggest HP increase would be to install the HO parts but that won't get you 50HP. But is the only way I would increase the power and have it live my 4.7HO runs very well with 3.73 gears.
One thing I might tell you the 2001's still had a few issues with the engine so if it were mine I would drive easy and have it live a longer life.
If you want a hot rod buy something else like a lightweight car and put a high HP engine in it something like my old street driven Wagon below is what old people drive.

Ok , maybe I'm being a bit hopefull with the fifty,,, lol,,, but I would love to get as much hp as I can without blowing it up, it's a big lump,, I thought I must be able to do something to give me the sort of power the Ho engine gives out, I drove one the other day and you do notice quite a difference.
With my limited knowledge I thought, air filter, exhaust, and dare I say having the engine remapped,,, but you guys are the experts, sincerely, as far as my pockets,, ha,,, not that deep but if I really want something,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Also have you gentlemen any thoughts on the shocks and springs please? I have been looking at the American websites but don't know what to buy, I want to go fast safely,, lol,, I love my Jeep and I have had four of them, but I never worked on any of them,,I hope to change this with this one, thankyou for your time, john

Are we talking about the 4.7 V8 or the 4.0 I6? I myself am a little leery about "breathing" on (modifying) the 4.7. Not when the connecting rods are powered metal! IDK what your emission requirements are, but the 5.7 or 6.4 hemi is the way to go.

My young friend its one of those facts of life if you want to go fast it costs money and the faster you go the more it costs. People speak of cheap HP adders where you can pick=up extra 50+ HP that is true but they will cost you in the long run with other damaged/broken stock parts.
