I have a 99 GCL 2WD that has a battery drain. i know how to troubleshoot it (using a multimeter and unplugging fuses) but am having a hard time pin pointing it. i know my ignition switch is messed up cuz i can remove the key at any stage.
which leads me to stupid question #1: what is the switch order start, off, accessory or start accessory off?
when i turn the jeep off and pull the key out and open the door the warning tone goes off like i left my lights on or left the key in... but neither are true.
also, when i turn it off, the clock/radio stay on. this is where i get my first question from... i want to make sure im removing the key in the right position so i can tell if the clock/radio should be staying on or not.
Thank God i don't have any of those nightmare jeep electrical problems, but would like to not unplug my battery everywhere every day.

Going clockwise from extreme position is accessory, locked, unlocked, run, start. You should only be able to remove the key in the locked position. The key chime will sound in the locked and unlocked positions. Obviously your key tumbler is shot, but the switch is okay. You can get a new tumbler from Jeep, but you'll have to have the security system reprogrammed with the new keys and probably change the door and hatch tumblers as well. Check with your dealer on that.
