bad egr valve

Would a bad egr valve cause my 93 zj witha 5.2 to stall?

it could. only if its opening to soon usually you will have a miss at idle along with this.

Engine: 4.0 with all of the noise and clatter

Pull and plug the vacuum line that goes to the EGR valve and see if there is any difference.

Well the black plastic part of the egr is melted and the vacuum line from the valve is unhooked and plugged.
