Default back up lights/fog light

I see some have mounted lights on roof racks and similar facing backwards.. I can guess many are on toggles but has anyone tapped into/spliced into there back up light wiring for there taillights so when you back up they come on and don't have to mess with the switch?? I been thinking of adding one fog style light that would have a wide pattern roght in the middle, can always find one of a pair lying around... Any thoughts on this?

Sounds like a good Idea, If it were me I would use the back-up lights as signal power for a relay with a deicated power wire for the light as the stock wire most likely is not rated for something as high wattage as fog lights

On my old rear bumper I just used the stock back up light power. It worked great! I did smash my lights on trees. But back then I didn't know better. Just put them in the wrong spot. I still find things by backing into them. It works and I don't cair. Anyway I think it would work.

you could easily do that, but im pretty sure it would be illegal on the road. thats why people always put them on toggles.

Ya its not legal. But I did it for a year. Mind you I didn't drive down the road in reverse. So if you do do that you will get a tickit.

I am going to wire mine using a three way toggle. So I could have on with reverse, off, on and use as a aux. lighting for those times when setting up camp at night and such.

I don't have a Grand Cherokee, but I did this on my XJ, they are tapped into my reverse lights.
