Automatic Trans slipping

Default Automatic Trans slipping

OK guys on my 94 ZJ 5.2L with automatic (all time all wheel drive)

I noticed lately that when the trans is cold sometimes (not always) the trans will slip while accelerating (revs high, I let off and go and it runs fine)

it has been doing this maybe 5-6 times in the last 3 weeks and now I am starting to worry if this is a problem I should attend to promptly..

I have heard all the horror stories of people pulling the pan down changing the filter and after that the trans wont shift properly again... ONLY when it slips (the 1 time) other then that the trans runs good, shifts fine and if I stomp on it it down shifts and runs good..

I'm just curious what I should do if anything... I don't want to put a new trans in this and I don't want to loose it..

I looked at the fluid its not bad color it is full but there are bubbles all the way up the stick, it doesn't smell burnt either..

Should I drop the pan (leave the filter and NOT whip the pan clean) then refill with fresh fluid or what??

Any help would be great.. Again it does NOT happen every time and the only time it does is when it is cold (again not every time it is cold).

what mileage you have? on which gears it usually slips?

my dakota does this. but only when i first start it up to leave.
it's also v8 4x4, probably same tranny. it's done this for about 5 years now. i'm not really that worried about it.
also, sometimes the overdrive won't kick in. still not too worried. it works fine most of the time.

adjust your tvc cable(kick down). mine was doing the same thing. now with it adjusted right i havent had a problem out of it

2xs. Also lube the he!% out of it. I have had a few Chrycos that do this. If you take a wire brush and clean the linkage good then lube it really well everyday for a few days it should be fine. Always worked for me.

how are you guys adjusting the kick down cable? At the trans or on the throttle body? I see no adjustment at the TB.

220K on the odometer (not sure on engine/trans)

how do I adjust the kick down cable
can't really say what gear it does it in.. sorry..

another thing I noticed is the shift LEVER is very loose and sloppy, any way to fix that or adjust it?

there is a button on the side at the end of the cable housing that clicks into the bracket. Push that bracket in to either tighten up or loosen the cable. Making it loose will make it shift sooner. Making it tighter will make it shift later and harder. I had to make mine more loose. I still need to play with it a bit more because every once ina while it goes into "netural" when up shifting from 2nd to 3rd unless I fully lift. But the adjustment did make it better then what it was doing before.

that is basically what I have going on.. slipping into neutral before it shifts.. if I let off and then go it works fine
