Default Anyone know how to fix a ciggarette lighter?

One of my ciggarette lighters went bad which sucks cause I am planning a road trip and I need both working (dvd player,GPS, phone charging). Anyone know how to fix it or replace for a small cost? Thanks!!

Did you check the fuse? Has it worked before? There isn't really anything to go wrong with cig lighter part in the dash. When a cig lighter quits working it is usually the element and they can be replaced for a couple of bucks.

It was working up untill about two weeks ago. Never thought of looking at the fuse. Since I have two should I be checking for two fuses or just one for the cig lighter? Is the fuse to that under the steering wheel? Thanks.

On my 98 ZJ I have 2 fuses one for cig lighter and one for aux. outlet. My fuse box is in the Pass. side kick panel.

There are two fuses as stated above for the XJ... and they are in the pass. kick panel... I would def. recommend checking those... otherwise I am going to say it is a wiring issue if the socket itself doesn't work... if it does work and just a lighter doesn't then it is the lighter itself which won't bother you using it for DVD players and such... just can't smoke...

Seems like there is only 1 fuse for the cigar lighter see below.

The cigar lighter is F26 15amp (Light blue)

X2 on a fuse as a probable cause. And as stated earlier, there is a separate fuse for the lighter and the power receptacle.

Did you find any resolution to this? I have the same thing happening, but my fuses are fine (I always go there first). Mine is the 20amp power outlet that is down, the "lighter" outlet is fine. No clue how to go about changing it.

Is this for your 2000 Grand? If so there's a cigar lighter relay. http://www.wjjeeps.com/fuses.htm
Click the image to enlarge.
Also check the PDC if it's the one in the rear. http://www.wjjeeps.com/misc/power_dist_ctr_02.jpg
