and..... another problem..
98 4.0 2wd grand cherokee. Think the rack is gone. Will not hold power steering fluid. Leaks out after 2 turns and squeals the whole time. High pressure line is dry and return is dry. Anything else I should look for? Haven't gotten under it yet, but I am pretty sure the seals in the rack have given way.. also, anyone know how tricky the rack is to replace? Have rebuilt the head, and many other things, so I know my way around a vehicle, but never worked on anything with suspension..

your jeep doesn't have rack and pinion steering. it is old school with pump and steering box.
with that said, if your lines aren't leaking, i would look into either pump or box. box is more prone to leaking but your reservoir may be cracked where the line enters.
but check that and the box shaft seals where the steering column attaches.

Looked under her yesterday... it is coming from the gearbox..... which was just replaced in March... NAPA warranties her, but does anyone know what could make this happen if it isn't just a bad box?

It could be you used a fluid that was incompatible with the seals. 98 takes Mopar Power Steering Fluid or equivalent. Probably MS-3951 but don't quote me. Check it out yourself.
