I have a 2001 Grand Cherokee whose AC will randomly cut in and out. I bought one of those do it yourself AC kits but once I put the hose on the low pressure port the gauge needle was reflecting that my Freon was at the perfect level so I never added any of the refrigerant from the can. Now where do I look? Is it the switch itself? Is there something else I can look for myself? I know some of you will tell me just to take it to a shop and get it done and I'm not against it but I also try and do as much as I can before doing so. I've saved way too much money over the years fixing things myself if I can.

Any thoughts?

Cuts out after reaching proper engine temp but work normal when first started when cold ?

 

It's very random. Sometimes it's works right at start up then cuts out after driving a while, other times it doesn't work at start up then out of the blue it starts working. Sometimes it will stay on for quite some time other times it will cut in and out several times while driving. There's no pattern that I can figure out.
