Default Is this an aftermarket tow package?

My 97 ZJ has a heavy guage wire with a fuse (empty socket) attached to the battery and runs down the frame and up through the floor just below the fuel filler pipe. It has a trailer hitch on it. I haven't taken the interior panel off yet because it's behind the spare tire, and I've had other things that required my attention. Could this be a tow package? Is this the area where the harness junction is? What up?

Thanks for that! I will scope it out as my time permits. As I've said before, you guys are the best source of information I"ve found anywhere!

do you have a flat four conector for the trailer lights? those have a converter box on them and should have a brand on it.

If it's a fused heavy gauge wire from the battery, it may have been put in place for an aftermarket stereo amp at one point, or for some other device in the back that requires a bunch of power.

Not on the early models with teh 7-pin plug... The factory plug in on at least up to 96 was on the passenger side behind the interior cargo panel. I've pulled three in the last month trying to find one that was completely corroded.

The after market(Hoppy, etc.) 4-pin harness would plug in behind the drivers side taillight and come down from that side.
