AC pulley question
Okay so my AC has been out for many years an I'm finally getting the money to replace it piece by piece but I have noticed that my AC pulley doesn't look right.
There is what looks like melted O-ring on one side and a gap on the other. Pics below:

I assume that needs to be replaced but I am curious what caused that. Thanks in advance for any help.
