I got a wj that was knocking at 3k now it knocks at idle. Around here they want $1600 for a 4.7 with 150 I would like to put in a more reliable 4.0 and throw this 4.7 piece of junk out. Anybody have and info on what is needed to do this.
I have been looking but not able to find exactly what I need to do this, I am running out of time to be sitting around searching the net.
My wife roll or tahoe and insurance was not good enough to cover it. From what I have read the timing chain could be bad the lifter assembly could be out of position or a connecting rod could be bad. The jeep has 200k of bad maintenance on it so it's not really worth saving the engine.

You're in for more than you want to spend to convert it to a 4.0, at least as much as a new 4.7. The mechanics aren't bad, but the electronics will rape your wallet.
