I got a 99 Grand Cherokee limited and when i put it into 4Lo and give her gas the engine revs and a lot of noise comes from the transfer case but the car wont move?? Is the transfer case done?

I was driving the truck in 4Lo going approx 40 km/hr and all of a sudden it popped out of 4Lo into neutral and a crazy grinding sound came from under the truck. Now it wont drive on 4Lo but 4X4 All-time works fine.

shift into 4 lo with the vehicle coasting at about 5mph and the transmission in nuetral... sitting still usually won't get the splines to line up. as far as it popping out of low range, i would make sure the linkage is well lubricated and moving freely. i've seen the same problem just from lack of use
