Default 99 GC scraping, metal-on-metal sound in second gear

First of all, I'd like to say hi, I'm new here.

Okay, so my 1999 Grand Cherokee is beginning to act up again. It's been going on for about 2 weeks now. When I'm in second gear, I hear this metal-on-metal scraping noise coming from underneath the car, almost like someone is dragging a metal pipe on concrete. I also regularly hear a lot of popping and squeaking.

I narrowed it down to second gear about a week ago, because it only happened when I was in second and let off the accelerator. Now however it does it pretty much all the time. It gets so bad that it'll turn heads as I drive by, and I can hear it on the highway. I can also feel it through the accelerator (it just doesn't feel right) and something sounds off when I start the truck.

It has the 4.7 liter V8 engine and I'm pretty sure it has the 45RFE 4WD transmission. If anyone has any information on this, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your help.

-Michael
