99 GC - Leaking seal under front of engine - coolant
I have recently had to replace power steering, have a leak in radiator (bought new, thermostate, hoses, etc. to replace), but whilst raising up vehicle, noticed a reasonable and constant flow (more when cold) of coolant from a plate at the bottom of the engine in front, just below wheels and belt. Don't know what it is called or how to refer to get parts/ideas/etc.
Inline 6, 4.0L. See pic below. It pours coolant out almost immediately when I am retopping the resorvoir (and radiator, if needed).
As it gets warmer/hoter, it stops, then reoccurs for some amount whilst car cools or sits overnight.
Doing radiator, themos, etc today, but m ow this is still outstanding and do not even know what to refer to or call it in re acquiring materials/tools to repair or ....... and yes, I have searched through the big book jave on the car, as well as engine images online seeking the answer. No luck.
Thanks
This is looking upwards from under vehicle, just below the lower guide wheel in the front of the engine.
Here is the pic with arrows. They point to the plate that is screwed down, and from what looks like a gasket or seal, between the 2 centre screws where the middle arrow is, which is directly under the hose/pipe you see in image, albeit is actually above the hose looking down inside engine. The coolant drips on the pipe. Cheers
It's more than likely the water pump shaft seal is bad. That tends to seal somewhat when it gets warm. Also, up to 2000, you should be using the old green ethylene glycol coolant. Jeep didn't go to HOAT until 2001. HOWEVER, since you're using it, continue using it. If you mix the 2, it can coagulate.
