getting my first jeep today!!!!! cant wait to drive it but it has a few issues nothing major. the front passenger side cv joint is bad. im thinking of just replacing the whole drive axle. also the abs light is on but im thinking it might just be the abs module. other than that it seems to be solid. is there any common problems jeeps have that i should look into? thanks in advance

check heater. it should be working correctly.if not you need to remove entire dash to repair. also there shouldnt be any rumble or grinding sound on anywhere. if there is at back you need to rebuild diff and/or you need to replace wheel bearings. check steering quality. it should direct car instantly not not like driving a jelly. if not you need to replace several suspension busings sway bar bushings and track bar bushings. if rear sways you again will need to replace sway bar and track bar bushings.

abs can be faulty due to only an abs senson on any of disc brakes.

about v8 engine, i have no idea we have inline 6 cylinders on 97 zj. about auto transmission, it should be working absolutely smooth. no thump noises not harsh movement nothing.you need to count 3 gears and a last overdirve ratio. overdrive engages around 45 mph or so. also during idling, it should engage from neutral to reverse or to drive, quickly and with a instant creep. there sould not be more than 2 seconds of delay. if there are any of those symptoms you will need a new transmisson and/or rebuilt.
