Default Wj chip key

I just bought a 2000 wj larado. I went to get a copy made and found out it is the keys with the chip in it . Is there a way to buy the chipped key and program it myself, so I'm not spending 100 bucks at the stealership.

I can do it from my Matco Scantool. See if anyone you know and are friendly with has a Scantool, not a programmer, but a full fledged scanner. They might be able to do it.

Still have to get the key from the dealer, might as well have them code it for you while you're there.

Well unfortunately the nearest jeep stealership is about 30 miles from me. Luckily I found a locksmith about two miles that does it and has the keys but he was out on the road today so I don't know how much it cost yet. I'll find out tomorrow.

Any Mopar store (dealer) can do it.

If you have two working keys @ this time you can learn a replacement. This is a quick run down on what to do. If you need more detail wjjeeps.com has a detailed article on it (under sentry key). Insert original key #1 into ignition and turn to On
Wait 5 seconds and turn key to off
Immediately insert original key # 2 into ignition and turn to on
Wait 10 seconds for SKIS indicator in dash starts to flash
Turn ignition off, insert new blank key and turn ignition back on
Once SKIS light stops flashing and turns off, your new key is programmed

Thanks, hat will be great to do in the future but right now we only have one key for the wj. I need to get the key made no matter what, because she is going to take my xj to work when it snows,She is still a little nervous driving her wj. So I need a key in case I need to go somewhere.
