98 jgc limited 4.0 o2 sensor help
on a trip mudding with my buddy I some how managed to pull the wires out of my rear o2 sensor, while on the trail I noticed a lot of power that I never had before, since my jeep usually was sluggish all the time. Once we got to level dry ground I stopped because of 2 loud bong sounds and that's when I discovered the torn wires. Just wondering how long could I run it with the messed up o2 before bad stuff happens? I have a 1998 jeep grand Cherokee limited with the il6 4.0

If it's getting more power because it's now running richer than before, it won't be too long before you ruin the catalytic convertors.
If it's now running less gas than before, it could be runnig lean. That can cause an engine to overheat, as well as causing detonation (spark knock), and damage in extreme conditions in a very short time.

It seems to be running on the rich side. The only reason I ask is because I won't be able to get the new one till around the 15th seeings how I only get paid twice a month. And I don't want to be dealing with even more problems.

It'll run rich because without O2 sensor input the computer goes into 'limp' mode. It'll be ok to drive for a little while but besides horrific fuel economy you could also foul the plugs, if driven long enough. O2 sensors are only like $20-$30 from your local parts store or someplace online like Rock Auto, might be worth taking your alkyhol and smokes budget from this paycheck and apply to a new O2 sensor, saving yourself more money in the long run due to the increased fuel consumption and possible early spark plug change.

Spark plugs are cheap. It won't take long to ruin the catalytic convertor running rich like that, and they're not cheap.
Fix that O2 sensor before it's too late.

Ok so it's been parked for 3 days. Got the new o2 put that on and not it will crank but wont start. And I have no response from any of my Gauges . All the warning lights work but the gauges don't move. I've checked all the connections. Really hope it's nothing serious. Any ideas? Im gonna check for a spark later today. It's getting fuel.

Ok so there is no spark, I checked the ignition coil it is sending current to the distributor. Still no response from my gauges. I'm beginning to think my PCM needs to be flashed/replaced

Try a system reset. Disconect battery (make sure you have radio codes) after 10 mins connect and see. Dont cost nothing, cant harm nothing, might let it reboot?

Ok so I tried that and I still have the same symptoms. I've went ahead and listed it on Craigslist or 1500 and I guess I'll see where that gets me. Thanks for your help if and if any other ideas come to mind let me know
