Default 98 5.2l trans problem

98 5.2l 2wd,with a newly rebuilt original 44re.it occasionally will jump to 3k from its cruising rpm of 2100,and will continue to rise if i accelerate and then will eventually drop to normal. Another problem im having is 1-2-3 shifting points feel like they hesitate.imagine driving, you feel foward movement when light turns green.jeep shifts from 1-2 and you can feel the jeep losing forward movement, same with 2-3.... i need answers.i want my shifting points to be clean and smooth, like they should be.keep in mind that the trans has been serviced by certified transmission shop with already adjustments done.ive taken it to them,3 times with ralated issues.

My opinion? Find another transmission shop! Sounds like low governor pressure and slipping clutches. After a rebuild, the shifts should be clean, solid, and on time.

After transmission rework but before re-installation to vehicle, and especially if rework was due to a malfunction, a thorough reverse flush of lines and coolers is necessary to prevent re-contamination of the hydraulics. Assuming the aforementioned was performed properly then another point to consider is that the transmission operating characteristics (and obviously, the shift-points) have changed - this should dictate the need to activate/perform the TCM learn-mode/procedure.

I agree, however the shop should have done all that before saying it's done! Even a road test should have been authorized on the work order you signed.

I was only a shade-tree mechanic, but I always road tested a brake job before releasing the car.

I totally agree that they should have made sure all the bugs were out before giving it to me.now that ive had problems with it since ive gotten it back makes me second opinion there work and makes them look bad.you think if this trans redlines my engine it could damage it?

In my opinion, the best thing you can do is have it diagnosed by another shop. Seriously! Don't wait until it becomes damaged by slippage.

But that's MY opinion.
