Default 97 zj Shaking feeling when taking off

Whenever i get on the gas to take off, i get a really weird shaking feeling, almost like its hopping in the back, but im not spinning the tires or anything im just pulling out. I had a friend look under the jeep today as i pulled forward and backed up and pulled forward again multiple time to see if he could tell what it was and he said maybe a universal or something is wrong in the differential.

When i bought the jeep there was a u-joint in the back of the jeep just sitting there but i didnt think much of it at the time. I want to know what you guys think of this and what it might be?

Sounds like a U-joint, had a Ford P'up that did that. If the u joint you found is new just put it in.

After i take off it will slip alittle bit up in rpms and then come back down with a bit of a grinding noise, i was assuming that was a different problem, i bought a transmission from a guy i work with that he took out of his jeep before he sold it for parts to a friend.

hey thanks trucker, i will definitely try and flush the transmission before i go ahead and put in a whole new one, i think i may have a leak in the transcooler lines, would that cause the torque converter to slip??

You should see leak down. Low fluid level will do it.

i may just have to fix the leak then, ill fix any leaks, flush my current tranny, replace the fluid and see if that fixes it, and if not then i will go ahead and install the new transmission and see if that helps. About the shaking feeling taking off however, Should i try to fix the axle u joint to see if that will help?

Cool

Sounds like the viscus coupling in the T-case. You have a 249 or 242?

There should be a metal tag on the back side of the transfer case, left of where the rear drive shaft hooks up.
