97 ZJ Grand Cherokee Parking Light Mod
Did the parking light mod to my ZJ last weekend. Here's a list of parts that I used. If anyone was interested in doing this too.
Here's a list of the parts that I needed. The hardest part was finding those darn sockets to twist into the parking lights for a nice factory type finish.
If you need all new headlights we have them at 1aauto.com. If you have a 97-98 Jeep Grand Cherokee you will need the 93-96 6 piece kit to replace everything to also make this mod work.
The reason being on the 97-98 Grand, Chrysler changed the parking light from a three prong socket to a two prong socket, you need the earlier style parking light (that goes under the main beam ) for the new three-pronged socket to twist into.

If you only need the parking lights you need the 93-96 style.

Here's a picture of the sockets that I used. I found these at Pep Boys after searching at 4 different parts stores for an XJ socket (Including the dealer).

If you're unsure of how to remove these lights, here's a video we shot that you can reference.
Here's a picture of the stock wiring.

Ok so here's what I did. DISCLAIMER:This is the way I performed this mod and it seemed to work great on my Jeep. If you blow something up I assume no responsibility.
First off undo the negative battery cable. Then I peeled back some of the electrical tape on the stock socket. I clipped off the old socket leaving about 2 1/2" of wiring with it so that if anything went wrong I could at least go back to my original set up ( I always have a back out plan with this stuff).
The back of the new socket was labeled A B C the C wire ended up being the ground so I connected it to the ground that was on the old socket (black wire).
Next I connected the A wire to the positive on the old socket wire.
For the middle (B wire) on the new socket. I connected it to the blue wire with the red stripe that's in that side socket (in the same lens) to steal the direct power lead when the parking lights are on.
This is how it worked on my 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee. You may want to double-check all of your sources with a test light. That's what I did.
I also didn't solder anything until I had both sides twisted together and made sure all wires went to the same sources on both sides.
And Here's the final result.

Not bad. Im working on doing something a little different myself. Experimenting with LEDs. Fellow jeeper did this so far. I was thinking of something a little different as I have clear lenses all around.
