My 97 POS is at it again. Now the problem is the gear shift button on the automatic is not being able to be depressed into the T handle. I tried earlier and could not get it to engage to shift out of Park. I did have the brake pedal pushed in and engine running but it would not engage. My son tried to no avail. It was down to 21 last night and it did this about 2 times so far this season.
Went back into the house, looked online at JF and found a thread about using a chopstick to solve the shifter problem BUT I noticed that this was for a Wrangler problem in that the cheapo white beaded thingy inside the actual angled shaft had broken off. Sounds good and all but I was wondering if this fix would work with my 97 Grand Cherokee Laredo that has a straight shaft?
I will be taking my problem child to my mechanic tomorrow to have this looked at as it's getting colder here in NE Ohio and I dread this happening when I am at work and can't get home at night. Odd but when I went back out, started her up right away and shazam the button worked and I was able to change gears. Didn't go anywhere or move car though as I was too annoyed to go anywhere hoping problem would not happen again while I was out shopping.
Does anyone know if the chopstick fix would work on my problem child? Thanks.
