97 ZJ 4.0L Blowing ASD fuse
When started it will run for aprox 15 seconds and shut down. The 15a ASD relay coil circuit fuse will be blown. The first new fuse will sometimes get it going and sometimes it will blow again.
When the ASD fuse blows the compressor clutch will engage at all times with the ing / key in run.
When I found out the clutch was engaging at all times, when the fuse is blown, In a process of elimination, I disconnected the a/c control panel, pressure switches and clutch connector and plugged them back in one at a time with a new fuse and the engine running. The fuse did not blow.
No fuse has blown once it gets past 15 seconds of running time.
The last thing I did was pull the compressor relay ( to hopefully reduce the amp draw across the fuse ), put in a new fuse and it kept running. It has not blown the fuse again since pulling the clutch relay. This was like 4 days ago.
That's all the symptoms I've seen so far.
I looked at the wiring diagram and see that the ASD relay coil circuit is a straight shot from the PCM on the ground side and the 12v+ is spliced ( Splice S101 ) with the compressor clutch relay, fuel pump relay, pcm, bcm - all on the relay coil side & the duty cycle evap purge solenoid. The 12V+ side is fed by the power distribution center circuit F99 which is fed by the ignition switch in start and run which is fed by fuse #8 / 40A in the PDC.
What throws me is:
* Why the compressor clutch stays engaged at all times with the ingition in the run position when the ASD fuse is blown or removed.
* Why the fuse doesn't blow after 15 seconds of engine running time have passed.
New info. I was just informed that the fuse blew again. This time with the a/c relay still removed. And, as usual, after starting and with 10 seconds of run time.
Thanks
