Default 97 grand governor problems

Anybody ever had to change the governor on a 97 grand? Is it true you have to pull out the tranny? Tried to get it inspected but code 1764 keeps coming up? I would appreciate all feed back!

The governor is electronic on these. There is a governor pressure solenoid and pressure sensor, I recommend replacing both. All you have to do is remove the trans pan and filter, then a small chunk of the valve body. It would not be a bad idea to consider adjusting the bands since the rear band is right there, and of course new filter/fluid too.
