Default 97 Grand Cherokee Laredo

Hi ! I am Rose, I am the new, second owner of a 1997 Grand Cherokee Laredo with 95000 miles. My husband bought this for me to drive in rain and inclimate weather and so I don't put too many miles on my CLK 430 convert. I have had it about a month now. I am having a rear lamp failure on the information display showing flashing lights on the rear. There are no lights out in the rear. The only bulb out was a side marker, just replaced that. I did replace the bulbs in the fog lights recently, Any idea what this problem could be?

I don't know your Jeep but its possible they used the wrong bulbs.
3157, 3257 and 3357 all appear to be the same, but they are different wattage, and may cause the light on the dash.

Thanks I'll double check the bulb for the rear lights. My husband saw a post on line that there could be a relay or something in the power distribution that could be faulty. Maybe a common problem?

My understanding is the Info Center reads the resistance/current in the circuit. So if the bulb is out, it senses it. And if its the wrong bulb, say a 25 watt instead of a 40 watt bulb, it would sense the same thing. I do know that LED brake lights give people fits! LED are very low current.

I replace all the lights on both tail lights found a samll one that was blown but center computer still flashes with warning on tail lights. How do I reset the info center or does just take time to quit flashing after you replace the lights.

Should have already quit. You can try pulling the battery cable, but dont hold your breath it will fix it.

I don't know about the 97, but Jron is correct. I remove my negative battery cable in my 94 for 3 minutes, it resets the VIC. Good luck!

Deal with it, sorry for being blunt, but it is probly the lamp outage module, mine was bad, it actually caused no brake lights in the rear, on my 94, if u open the lift gate and remove the drivers side panel back there it is in there. u should be able to smell or see if its burnt out.

tiwvr1, Are you always so blunt with all the ladies? I thought this forum was here to help people deal with problems. It can be done without sarcasm. Thank you for the advice you offered. -Rose

Sorry. Put on the E-brake when taking it out of park to check those lights, even if the engine isn't running.
