Default 97 Grand Cherokee driver door problem

My 97 Grand Cherokee has a driver door opening problem. The jerk who took apart my Jeep before I got her stripped ALL the screw heads/bolts for the door latch adjustments on the edge of the door. I have to sometimes push in the **** and lift up on the door handle to have door open. Or I have the fun surprise of keep jabbing and pulling on the door handle until it does come open (give it anywhere from 3-6 yanks). Tried to adjust and it keeps laughing at me and doing same thing. I think somehow the door is too low and needs to be higher just a smidge to fix this annoying problem. I downloaded a Jeep Fixit manual and it says to adjust the screws in the door edge. What do I do since ALL the screw heads are happily stripped and can't be adjusted. And yes, I would like to use that shovel on that guy's face a few whacks just to get even for my aggrevation.

I think your problem is with the hinges and not the door latch. The pins wear out and the door drops too low. The driver's door naturally is the first to go. I've never done a jeep, but I have replaced the pins and bushings on GM products many times. Just use a floor jack to support the door while replacing them, top one first. It also helps to have the vehicle stabilized on a jack stand or blocks when you do it.
