96 zj v8 rough idle/dying when hot outside
1996 zj 5.2
When it's above 85 degrees or so and I've been driving around an hour It starts having a rough idle and sometimes dies. Only check engine code is for the 02 sensor ( after the cat) was told it wouldn't matter so never changed it.
I have no clue where to start, any advice would be appreciated.
PS. I am mechanically adept, have owned it for 4 years, have done all repairs myself. Never missed an oil change, full tune up 30000 ago, all fluids are always topped off. It's not a huge problem, just annoying.

Will it restart and run if you keep your foot on the gas? Is it stalling when you come to a stop, or is it stalling while driving? You could have a bad Idle Air Control motor or a bad cam sensor (aka the ignition pick up or pick up coil) depending on what symptoms you're experiencing.

No problems while driving, only when I come to a stop. When it gets bad I have to keep on the gas while stopped to keep it running. If it does die it starts right back up. When it's bad I have gas to the floor with no acceleration but after 10-15 seconds it's kicks in.

Sounds like the idle air control motor is failing once it gets hot. That is pretty common for them to fail that way. Replace it, don't waste your time cleaning it.
