The 242 t-case has a full time selection and once is gets near winter snow season, you can put it in full time and not worry about your wife. The 242 has a differential where the 249 has it's viscous clutch. I've found there isn't any difference in fuel mileage in 4WD as opposed to 2WD. After all, you're still turning all them gears.
