Default 96 jeep cant figure out what is going on

I have a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I am losing power while I am driving, sometimes it won't even turn over. I have had my fuel pump replaced as well as the fuel filter, cap and rotor, spark plug wires, battery and cables and clamps, iginition switch. What else is there to do.

Clean your throttle body? Hows the air filter. Any vacuum leaks?

I haven't been told I had any vaccuum leaks and I will try to clean the thottle body like you said and see if that helps. This just suddenly started happening like 3 weeks ago and I can't pinpoint what the problem is and it is driving me crazy. I appreciate your suggestions.

Crank sensor probably. Go back and edit your post and read the rules, you CANNOT post about removing your "cadilliac" convertor. Federal law, they have to be there.

Welcome to CF. This tells how to check and replace the Crank Position Sensor.

Same problem here. Mine will die on me as I'm driving as well, then will start up again, lots of backfire too.

Changed out the same things you did even the crank sensor. The problem cleared up a bit with each thing replaced but it's back.

Mine is more problematic in the morning or night. During the day it's fine.

I'm thinking of dropping the tank to see it's dirty fuel or the fuel pump.

Had the same problem with my 96 limited. Pull the overflow box, pull the cover off the ecu, pull the wire clips and check for 1: loose wires or connections on the wire clips, if so, repair the loose or broken connections. 2: back the screws holding the circuit board in place out, add the equivalent of about 1/8" of plastic washers on each screw and hand tighten. This will correct the issue until you can replace the ecu. This helps with what is most likely a small hairline separation in a solder connection somewhere on the board. You WILL eventually get the problem back as the bad connection worsens, but this corrected my issue for about the past 3 months or so.

After reading the above post I took a closer look at my ECU, located against the firewall on the passanger's side behind the coolant reservoir. I noticed that if I pushed the ECU toward the firewall the jeep would stall. I would then pull it away from the firewall and it would start up again fine. I located a small wood wedge like the ones used to hold a door open. I gently hammered this small wooden wedge between the firewall and the ECU until it was firmly in place. This fixed my problem. Hard to believe that after changing out various sensors and giving it a tune up the problem remained, but this little trick finally did it. Hopefully this info helps others having the same problem.

Catalytic converters are required by law. Cadillac converters, on the other hand, well, they probably should be illegal .......
