96 grand cherokee limited electrical queston
ok, yesterday i was driving with the radio and the heat on. all of a sudden, no heat and the the radio stopped. i still had the radio lights but the time display was out. the ac/heat seems to be not working, and the display for the car info went out. anybody have the same issue? oh and i dont believe it was just a fuse because i had that smell like some wires were melting, a popped fuse usually dont get that electrical fire smell.

do you have an aftermarket stereo? someone probably tapped into wires they shouldnt have when they installed it and now it took out your heat and stuff, I would pull the stereo out and trace the wires, AFTER you check the fuses, you should have done that first before even posting this...

Pull the steering column covers off and take a look at the big flat plug on the bottom of the ignition switch. There will be a pink (I think it's pink) wire, that is the aux. circuit power wire. The terminal may be kind of burnt looking and could be causing a bad connection for that circuit. That is a pretty common problem with any Chrysler product that uses that steering column. The dealer will have a repair harness available that will have a thicker gage wire for the aux. circuit.

no aftermarket radio. the stock one, the fuse that controlls autoclimate, the info display and radio was blown. the the truck was off and i tried to replace it and blew automatically. the display has been acting funny the last month, blinking, all solid blocks etc., i disconnected the harness going to the back.. hapefully it will hold the fuse. i ran out of them, have to go buy more. thank you guys for you suggestions. any more thoughts? ill check back and ill check that wire from the column

When I got new fuses, I worked fine. The information display was shorting it out. All I did was disconnected harness from the back of it put it all back together, a new fuse and I have heat. And radio back working. Thanks everyone for your input.

I just bought a 96 grand cherokee and the heat didn't work.. To find out it had a blown fuse. When I put a new fuse in the Info center started smoking pretty bad. Guess it's a common problem..
