Easiest way I find is to remove all the crossmember bolts and lower the transmission down enough to reach up and get it from the bottom. On a 96, you'll probably need to disconnect the t/case linkage. On a V8, its by the starter. On a 4.0, it's on the driver's side on top of the bellhousing. Trick with the 4.0! The plug is on the passenger's side near the back of the block. Tie a string to the old one and pull it out. Change the string to the new one and pull it back in. If it only mounts with 1 bolt, make sure it comes with the cardboard spacer on it. That sets the proper distance from the flywheel and gets torn off on startup.

Do yourself a favor and use only a Mopar CPS.

What Dave said about only Mopar is SO true my friend, you will just be taking out that other brand in a week otherwise.
Those methods to change it work, but if you are agile and patient and have a flashlight with a base stand, I have changed mine a couple times just from under the car with all the long 3/8" extensions I have ( about 2 1/2 feet) and a swivel joint by the socket.. Just poke it up there then go under the hood and with finger and thumb of your left hand guide it onto the bolt, then go back down under the truck and ratchet her out.

OK guys I got the CPS replaced it straightened it out quite a bit but it's still got a miss and stall not near as bad anymore but enough you can tell. I've changed plugs, wires, distributor cap and botton, now I'm thinking it's the mass airflow sensor cause my brother unplugged it and no change in the motor...any more ideas
Thanks in advance. 98 GOD 4.0 4x4

Wait....didn't they stop production of the SJ in 92? We're talking Wagoneer, right?

If it's a 96 ZJ, you don't have a mass airflow sensor. It uses a manifold pressure sensor, intake air temp sensor and throttle position sensor.

Check your distributor shaft for wobble or a loose magnet under the cam sensor in the distributor.
