Default '96 GC Laredo CV joints are breaking

Greetings,

I am new to this board, and did a search but came up with nothing similar so I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere.

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. It is an AWD and has the v6. I have replaced the CV shafts on the front drivers and passengers side at least twice each. Yesterday I was turning into my driveway and she shook a little bit on me and I heard a snap. Without jacking it up, I looked under and sure enough the cv boot was completely ripped again, and I can only assume it broke again. I bought a new one already but am curious why this keeps happening. I am fairly certain that there is another issue going on. A few other problems that could be somewhat related:
1. I get a shaking and clattering at ~55 mph.
2. After the jeep is shut off and in park, it will actually move forward a tiny bit. It doesn't only do this once... but a few times. (On a completely flat surface) It almost jumps forward as if something is under pressure and forcing it forward. (This one is strange, I swear it is possessed )
3. It needs a new rear axle (the whole assembly)
Just to note, the breaks are all new up front.. replaced the tie rod end and looked everything over and it looked solid.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I will be watching the boards closely. Thanks in advance guys.

I think you may have an issue with the viscous coupler in the transfercase. When the VC goes bad all kinds of funky things happen, such as the creeping while in park.

Bustedback,

Thanks for the quick reply, I will do some reading on that part as I can take a guess at what it does, but am not too familiar with it.

Do a search on this site for the viscous coupler, you'll find all kinds of info. Most prefer to swap the problematic NP249 case out for a NP231 case, then you do away with the viscous coupler and you will have 2wd.
