1st time on this, need help, have 95 5.2 V8 grand Cherokee with engine locked up, trying to replace engine but can't index the crankshaft to remove the top bolt from the torque converter. Anyone have suggestion how I can separate the transmission from the engine? also how do you get to the top bolt on the bell housing and what size are they?

Drop the back of the transmission and use a long extension with a 9/16 wobble socket. Maybe you can drop the oil pan and loosen the rod and main caps, that may allow you to turn the crank and get to the torque converter bolts.

You CAN remove the engine with the torque converter still on it, but it's easy to damage the transmission input shaft if you're not careful. If you're going to do this, reinstall the other 2 bolts first. You may also need to remove the radiator for clearance or slide the trans back.
