95 Grand Cherokee 4.0L wont start
I just bought my 1st Jeep/4x4 a few weeks ago. My son (or someone)set off the security alarm and I didn't notice it for a few days (prev owner removed audible device). The battery was dead, couldn't jump and had a very hard time starting and getting it off of the alarm because of not knowing how to reset the "alarm". Now that I bought a charger and re-charged the battery my beloved money pit won't start. She turns over and acts like she might start but completely stops after a couple of seconds. I'll turn the key off, she'll start turning over again, then nothing (no turning over, no gas/ignition, no starter)after 1-2 seconds. I've seen a lot of posts with people having starting issues but, this seems directly related to the alarm thing cause I had no issue till then. I checked the fuses and the 30a eng cntrl fuse looks black inside the plastic towards the top where 2 metal tabs stick out but the fuse isn't broken in the center section where it should be. I'm going to get some extra fuses and see if someone can also check the "auto shutdown" fuse/relay thing also. You can tell I don't know too much 'bout electrical, even though I'm a mfg/tooling/process/mech engineer! Please Help?!

fyi
I checked the fuel rail and it has gas. Two other things: the center console panel w/the time/open door indicator/time/trip etc...isn't working now but was after problem started and I took the front driver's side door panel off because of needing repair or replacing so none of the connections for the windows, locks, side rear mirrors etc...are hooked up. I also checked all the fuses in the right side front cabin area. I also replaced the auto shutdown relay jic.

From the other forumshttp://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f13/:
There is 2 different ways to disable alarm.
1)Put back in all fuses that you may have taken out Trying to disable it.
2a) Put Ignition Key in Passenger Front Door. Lock and unlock a few times(3 or 4)
~OR~
2b) Look in the space where your wiring harness from the Front Passenger door connects into the next harness(under glovebox area). You'll find a Purple/Yellow wire. Get out one of those vampire splice clips(the Blue ones) and clip it to the Purple/Yellow wire, AND a section of wire that'll reach to a Metal Point on the vehicle. Ground this wire out for a few seconds, then cap the wire and stuff away til you have the alarm issue again.

thanks
THANK YOU very much for the wiring info! Originally I only knew partially about the passenger door reset when I bought the vehicle (hopefully it will turn out to be my baby instead of a lemon). I read on here about turning the door lock back-n-forth a couple of times and it worked after I still had the alarm issue after hooking my battery cable back up after it was charged. Also what has me confused is that the center console screen that shows the open doors, 2 or 4 wheel drive indicator is not working at all now! Also, when I bought my Grand Cherokee the old stock radio, that information panel screen that's out now were both replaced so, I can see someone else had issues. The cigarette pack size plug-in alarm speaker was pulled also. Again, thank you so very much I need it being a newbie! many blessings your way!- Vincent

Sounds like my 95 when battery to low on me once the alarm has been activated by battery being dead or removed I have to put key in driver side door lock and manual lock and unlock then start it. The alarm has the anti theft device that won't let it start without the key. But do put back anything disconnected or it won't work either.

thanks2
Thanks, the video is exactly what my Cherokee was/is doing! BUT...it still won't start now after resetting the alarm and is doing the same thing (turn ignition key, engine starts turning over, acts like it's going to start, then after 1-2 seconds dies/nothing). And now the center console info display (showing trip, any open doors, which wheels are in drive etc..) doesn't work at all. To me I don't even care if this display works or not and I had to remove my front driver's side door panel to replace clips(on order) and reinstall the 2-3 screws that were holding it in place. The door panel is sitting in my back seat until the new clips arrive. I checked the fuses in the power distribution center under the hood and the fuses in the front passenger's side access panel. I'm sure there are more fuses and have a Haynes 93 thru 04 Grand Cherokee Repair Manual but, even as a engineer I don't quite get or comprehend the electrical diagrams! I need a automotive electrical book for dummies?!

for mudgoose
Mudgoose and eagsc7, do you (or anyone) think the driver's side door panel being off is effecting the starting and/or the center info display that's not working now have something to do with my starting issues also? I'll try the splice wire thing as-soon-as-possible also!
I have to get my Jeep started and running because my daily driver Kia Spectra POS has some issues plus, I need to drive my Cherokee to the tranny shop soon also.
Thank you so very much for your help guys!!!

Old fart with a wrench
It might have something to do with the door lock sensor being disconnected. The VIC is a crap-shoot. I think the one in my ZJ was disconnected from reality because it kept giving me error messages that weren't real. I finally pulled the plug in it!
