I'm running a 5.2l v8 '95 GC limited with 93k miles. I am having an issue, I was driving home from work today and I noticed as soon as I turned on my vehicle a loud noise, not a clunking. More of a constant screech or whine (somewhere along those lines). When I checked under my hood I noticed some rubber that was caked on things like the alternator and a radiator hose but could not find the source. My belts were replaced last year (10k miles ago maybe). Anyone know what it may be? Still drives fine, no power loss or acting "funny."

 

The bearing in something is freezing/frozen up and not allowing a pulley to spin. This makes the belt run over it instead of turning it... throwing hot rubber onto pieces under the hood.

You need to find which idler pulley/alt/etc that is freezing up and have it replaced.

 

agree with the above post. When u steer it puts stress on the p.s. pump, and the belt has to work harder, that is why it is more noticable then. Either the belt is loose, or somethings freezing up. Take your belt off if you can and spin everything by hand, you will FEEL which one is bad.
