94 ZJ transmission?

I just bought a 94 grand cherokee 318 AWD. 122,000 miles, with a bad transmission. The junkyard said that only a 94 or 95 tranny will work. Is this true? I think its a 48RH maybe?Can i use a tranny out of a 4x4 dodge truck with a v8?

you have a 46RH,93-95 V8's had this trans and i would try to stick to finding another from those years grands.

I had one in my 95 ZJ, and it went out on me too, they are kinda known for that. I have heard of people beefin them up, and essentially turning them into the truck trans, but don't konw how true it is. Sorry I couldn't be more help!!
