Default '94 ZJ 1.75 Axel ratio?

Hello everone,

1.75 is the ratio I'm getting after Jacking up the Jeep, turning the tires and counting the driveshaft revolutions. Is there an actual axel ratio of 1.75 available to the ZJ, or did I just screw up? Or did the original owner change the gear? Also there is no tag on the differential housing. I'm trying to find the axel ratio because I found an axel with disc brakes at the local recycler and I want to swap mine. By the way, the transmission is 5-speed. I need help. Any thoughts? Thanks

I think your doing it wrong. The tallest gears I've heard of for anything are like in the high 2. Somethings.

If its all stock its either 3.73 or 3.55

I'm pretty sure yours are going to be 3.55

Check the little tag on the diff cover. it will tell you what you have.

I made a mistake. The 1.75 is for 1 tire rotation, but I read somewhere that it has to be two tire rotations because it's open differential. So I believe it's 3.55, just like Falfani81 said. 1.75 x 2 = 3.50. Thanks

That makes no sense to me. If its an open diff, block one tire and turn the other one full rev and count the turns of the pinion. Should turn roughly 3.5 times if 3.55 gears.

It makes perfect sense once you add in the 2:1 multiplication that the spider gears will give you by doing it that way.
