I bought this Jeep two weeks ago. I drove it home and it has been sitting since. Today, I was going to take it to the DMV, and the Jeep didn't start. Figured it was a dead battery. I tried jumping it with an instant starter deal and had it jumped with my roommates truck. It also has an aftermarket stereo installed. Any possibility that it has a faulty lead somewhere and that is what is making the battery die?
When we jumped it, it cranked and turned over for about one second, then died. This happened about a half a dozen times. It was my knowledge that a car could run on a dead battery. Do I need to have it completely charged for it to run?
I have the battery charging now and I will test to see if she starts. But what else could be the problem?
Thank you for any information.

Does it have an alarm system?? Check wires at the computer on the firewall.. sometimes they are lose and will cause a no start sitution.. Is the fuel pump cycling on when you turn on the key?? Need lots of info..

the GC computer [pcm/ecm] is very sensitive to current and voltage drops, if the battery is below it's stable charged rate it can and will give you drivability issues , stalling and no start scenarios.

The fuel pump comes on for sure. It has the standard alarm system and the aftermarket stereo. One thing the previous owner told me is some coolant system detector/sensor kept burning out on him.
The fuses are all good inside and out.
I put in the fully charged battery and I will start for a second, then stall out. I cleaned the leads to the alternator.
Thanks

ok try this.. have someone try to start the vehicle while you push in or wiggle the connectors that go to the computer on the firewall..
Then try the same thing with the throtle position sensor at the throtle body..
Honesty I'm not that good at long distance diagois.. Fine OlBlue he is much better at that then I.
Since it will start and not keep running there is a lack of communication with the computer to tell it to keep running..

Look for a burn wire or broken wire somewhere. something is amist.. There was a thread here somewhere where a guy was having the same problem but was having a blown fuse issue also. Found it as a burn wire going to the oxygen sensor.. easy fix, hard to find and pin point.. Wire was laying on the exhaust and had burnt and melted, shorting out the sensor and sending false signal to the computer.. Look at the vacume connections make sure all are tight and not broken, the vacume lines are plastic and can and do break easly. Mine would start and quit after a few seconds when the pvc line broke off the side of the Plentumn. Was hard to see and only found it when checking the connections to the injectors.. $10 piece of rubber from the dealer and all was well.. I guess what I'm getting at is to make a through inspection of all the connections and clean up any that look supect before you can begin to really hone in on the real problem.. I know its not much help but that is the way it is done.. You have to eliminate the obvious first such as bad grounds at the battery and even bad grounds at the body to engine and engine to frame connections. Bad or corroaded connections can and do cause lots of intermitten and hard to fine issues.

If it will turn over, and stall out....kinda sounds like the security syestem is messing up. I had to get behind my glove box and ground out the security leads because mine was doing that.

It turned out to be the security system. I took off a bunch of connections, cleaned them, and put them back on.
Thanks for all the help everyone!
