Default '93 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo dash wiring issue

Hi. I've searched for an answer to this issue without success. My daughter bought a '93 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and the gas gauge, dash lights and emergency flashers don't work. The other dash instruments and turn signals work. A previous owner installed an aftermarket radio and ran additional speaker wires. I've removed those and installed a new radio. I've had a mechanic fix other engine issues and ask if they could diagnose the wiring issue. After an hour ($98), they only said it's under the dash with the radio wires. I've tried replacing the instrument cluster, dash light switch and light bulbs. Nothing has helped so far. Any ideas? Appreciate your time.

Was the radio harness plugs cut off in order to install the radio?

There's the problem. Go to the local you pull it yard and grab a couple of factory radio harness plugs and splice the on. Then get a radio wiring kit for the aftermarket radio that will plug into the factory radio harness. Do not hook the dimmer and illumination circuits up.

Well, I got the wiring harness from the yard and put it in with a new wiring harness for the radio. All hooked up and still the gas gauge reads empty, no dash lights and hazards still don't work. I also checked all the fuses and they are good. Other ideas?

The dash light dimmer could be at fault for the inop dash lights. Operate the dimmer a few times and see if anything happens. The hazard switch tends to collect a lot of dust and crap over the years. Playing with the switch will sometimes make the hazards come back to life. You could have a bad sending unit or a sunk float for the fuel gauge.

Thanks. I've tried a different dimmer switch but that was before installing the wiring harness. I'll test that again. Thanks for your time.
