Wanted some suggestions on what I can check/clean/replace to resolve an annoying issue with the jeep stalling.
It starts up fine, and will idle fine on a cold start. However, when shifting from Park to Reverse or Drive, the rpms will drop significantly and it will stall if it doesn't get some gas.
If I through it into idle as soon as it wants to stall, it will go back to idling fine.
As well, when sitting at a red light, if I lift my foot off the brake to move forward a few feet in traffic, the engine rpms drop again and it wants to stall.
Any ideas what I should check or test?
Thanks

Idle Air Control motor maybe the problem. Or a vacuum leak someplace.

Flushing the transmission will not cure a bad torque converter. I really doubt his problem has anything to do with the transmission itself. Again, IAC motor or a vacuum leak is the most likely cause.

I would agree too ,
"idle air control"......dont rush to the serious like, torque converter stuff till ya search the simple......

I have the same problem and replaced the IAC valve and cleaned the throttle body with no success.
Then I looked for vacuum leaks, none.
Then I replaced: Cap & Rotor, Plugs and wires, battery negative wires, battery terminals, fuel filter, battery, flushed the transmissin, added lucas trans additive, and replaced the air filter... still have the problem...
any more advice?

Hey buddy, I figured it out! It is a neutral safety switch. Very expensive part if you buy it from the parts store ($250) but you can just get one from the junk yard for cheaper!
