I finally removed the headlite assemblies to change the headlite bulbs. First time either has been done in 11 years. They were pretty dull to say the least and not safe either.

Picked up a pair of Silverstars (9006) not (9006XS) Found out the XS is what's supposed to go in as a replacement. I thought lets try installing the 9006 bulbs and see what happens.

They wouldn't fit at first, but then loosened the the 3 star bolts on each assembly a few turns and they fit.

So far so good. I know the XS is the right replacement...just didn't want to order them online and wait.

I think the XS rating is just Zenon filled. I've had 2 sets of 9004s and 9006s in my 2000 WJ.

 

The Owners manual calls for 9006XS because there straight bulbs which would require not finding a star bit to loosen anything. Could not find anyplace in town that stocked XS bulbs. No Zenon anything in the these. Sylvania makes a super bright Zenon bulb, but I don't own a ricer anymore

 

Well maybe I've got the numbers wrong, but my WJ uses different bulbs for the high and low beams. They are straight bases and the high beam glass is clear while the low beams have a gray painted tip. They are Sylvania and I got them at NAPA.
