8.25 rear end in a 06 grand cherokee?

8.25 rear end in a 06 grand cherokee?
My wife has a 06 wk that is all stock. The rear end it making a thumping noise. It sounds kind of like a bad u joint on the ds. The rear end looks like the 8.25 that you would find in a xj. Flat bottom and rubber fill plug. Did they put this axle in the grand? Thanks.
